2) In 1991, luring Iraq into Kuwait, an international coalition led by the United States "punishes" that country into submission and retreat; in 2003 the US finishes the job off where it left it in '91.

(1) Throughout the Cold War and particularly during the Afghan-Russia War, the US funds and trains Islamic Mujahideen (also known then as “freedom fighters” as celebrated by the late Ronald Reagan) in their proxy campaigns against the Soviets.
(2) At the end of the Cold War, a new American-led effort is mobilised to neutralise the threat of Muslim extremism originating primarily from the US’s former allies, Afghan-based Muslim fighters with weak but steadily building momentum during the Clinton years and culminating in Bush's fierce War on Terror against the Islamic militant movement.

(1) In the '90s, Clinton administration officials and a Zurich-based engineering company directed by the present Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld helped to create North Korea's threatening nuclear capability by awarding a contract for two light-water nuclear reactors capable of producing 100 nuclear bombs a year.
(2) Today, North Korea is fingered as a problem nation that needs to be disarmed urgently of its weapons of mass destruction and whose regime needs to be changed.
